Designing a Timeless Nautical Themed Nursery

Introduction:

If you know us, then you know by now that we love a touch of nautical and maritime sprinkled throughout our interiors– I mean we are from the Great Lakes after all. So today we thought we would recommend the items that would be at the top of our list if we were designing a timeless nautical themed nursery, without feeling too kitschy. Oh, and because this isn’t sponsored in any way, you can be rest-assured that these items made our list because they are truly well-deserved.

Wallpaper:

Striped Wallpaper
  1. Looking for something that will grow with them as they get older? We recommend this Wallpaper in navy blue ticking stripe by Spoonflower. For a natural rich texture we suggest going with the grasscloth type. Concerned about durability? This would pair lovely with a navy or neutral pale blue on the bottom half of the wall (bonus points if you add paneling or moulding), while wallpapering with this on the top half.
  2. Looking for more of a mural feel for an accent wall? We recommend this peel and stick Marine Landscape Mural from WallFashionWallpaper on Etsy. We think this would be darling behind a crib and the lighthouse is gorgeous (and may we add, very in keeping with our lighthouse-rich Great Lakes state).
  3. If you are looking for an elevated look, another stripe option is this timeless Ticking Striped Wallpaper by Pottery Barn. This wallpaper is made using a polyester fabric that is both steam and indirect moisture resistant and can easily be wiped up with a damp cloth, making it perfect for a nursery.

Toys:

Target Cloud Island Plush Sailboat Baby Toy
  1. Recently, Target has been stepping up their nautical game and their Cloud Island line is no exception. These small plushes would be the perfect functional addition to your nautical nursery and would even look adorable displayed on their bookshelf. And at under $10, they are a perfect budget-friendly way to add a touch of the shore to their space.

2. This Itzy Ritzy bear is an adorable addition to your baby’s toy collection and can easily be clipped to their stroller or carseat when on-the-go.

3. If you love supporting small businesses, I highly recommend checking out Hazel Village. They currently have two limited edition duck villagers that are handmade from organic cotton and all their products are ethically made. Plus these dolls and their accessories are the perfect heirloom toys that could be passed down and enjoyed for generations to come.

4. Of course we had to add Maileg mice to our recommendations for your nautical nursery. This is another collection that we feel is timeless and can continue to be added to as they grow. The rubber boat and surfer mice are extra cute.

Rugs:

Bronwyn Area Rug w/Hazel Village Arthur Lamb
  1. We highly recommend this Bronwyn Area Rug that is indoor/outdoor rated. It is a beautiful neutral pattern and can easily lean more nautical when paired with other maritime elements in a nursery. We have had it for the past 3 years in a high traffic space and it has held up beautifully. (Bonus: the subtle tone changes throughout make it easy to mask stains- because as we all know- accidents happen!)
  2. If you are looking for a machine-washable option, we recommend this ELLE Decor X Livabliss Odeon Machine Woven Rug in Ivory.
  3. This Capitola Hand-Tufted Wool Rug at Pottery Barn is perfect if you are looking for a natural fiber option. The subtle blue tones throughout the rug can easily lean more coastal and due to its high quality construction, would be a piece that would last for years to come.

Conclusion:

I hope you enjoyed our recommendations for creating a timeless nautical themed nursery.
